Del Sol seats in DA Integra
As
many of you have probably seen, Del Sol seats are pretty nifty looking, not
to mention comfortable. You may have also seen many EG/DC/EK chassis so equipped
with the seats. You may be wondering, where are all of the DA integras with
Del Sol seats? The reason for the infinitesimally small number number with
these is that they are not a
bolt in affair (like anything is with this chassis??). You *can* bolt them
in with the Del Sol rails, but its a truly 1/2 ass
attempt at a clean install. Only 3 of the bolt holes line up, and the seats
sit crooked to one side, and it is extremely
unsafe to carry on in this manner. If you are interested in getting them installed
straight and correctly, then read on.
This article is long, so please be patient both when reading it, and while
modifying the parts. **Note - this deals with modifying the passenger side
seat. However, the process is the same for both seats.
Part
1 - Removal:
Begin by removing the unneeded Del Sol parts from the seats. On the side with
the reclinement knob, remove only the
slider portion of the assembly. We will be modifying the DA slider to work
on this bracket. On the opposite side, remove
all
Del Sol parts. Do not throw away the removed pieces yet, as there are some
that need to be removed and retained for later use. Once the brackets have
been removed, the seats should look like this:

This piece
will need to be air chiseled off of the rail. There are 2 spot welds holding
it down, you can either drill them out,
or again, use the air chisel.

Part
2 - Installation of Left side DA parts
Once you have the
bracket off, it's time to install it onto the DA rail. Your DA rail/slider
need to look like this before you
try to install the removed bracket.

Enlarge the hole a bit, and use a 10mm bolt and nut on the bottom to secure it in place.

Now, this completed bracket is now ready to be installed onto the Del Sol
seat. By now you have probably wandered over
to the seat and tried to line this thing up. Surprise, it's not *quite* ready
to go on just yet. You will need 2 cylindrical
spacers to properly align bracket to the seat body. The diameter is not important,
just as long as the bolt will fit thru it.
The one that you will use for the front should be ~ 3/4" long, and the
one used for the seat belt mechanism should
be ~ 1.5" long.

Part 2.a - CDN/JDM integra
owners:
And people who are using some sort of 4 or 5
point harness, or anyone not using the automated choker seatbelts. You
are done with this side of the seat. Proceed to Part
3 of the install.
Part
2.b - USDM integra owners:
You are not out of the woods yets. The CDN/JDM
integras do not have the retractable seat belts that plague the USDM models,
and therefore do not have to modify it to to make it fit. The 2 modifications
needed are simple and straighforward, so don't
be scared, you're almost done with this side of the seat! All that needs
to be done is extend
the wires for the seatbelts about 8",
and trim the plastic cover that surrounds the retractor mechanism. Trim the
plastic until yours looks like this:

With that done, you can now bolt the seat belt assembly, along with your spacers to the Del Sol seat body. The completed setup looks clean, and the only thing to give it away as non factory is the lower seat bolster getting a little smashed by the seat belt unit. Other than that, everything's peachy.

Part 3 - Installation of Right side DA parts:
Only
one more side to go. Before you attempt to bolt on the Right side portion,
please make sure that your DA slider looks
exactly like this. If it does not, then you cannot continue with this segment.

When
you got to mount it on the seat bracket, it is helpful to enlarge the 2 holes
you will be using for mounting the DA
slider. You will be using the rear most hole (far left), and the right most
hole. The rear hole uses just a 10mm short bolt to mount (the bracket has
a welded nut on the back of it) and the right most hole requires a 10mm bolt
and nut. Make sure
to keep it as short as possible, or it will get jammed in the sliders track
when you try to move the seat. All buttoned up
looks like this:

Screw on the
plastic trim cover, install the reclining lever, and attach the metal wire
that connects the 2 sliders and make them move as one. You are all done. If
you haven't done so already, remove your old DA seat, and bolt the Del Sol
in, using ALL 4 BOLTS. The Del Sol seats do sit signifigantly lower, as they
are much more curved on the bottom cushion than the
stock DA seats. They also provide signifiganly more side bolstering letting
you actually stay in your seat during those
spirited drives!
